New: Online Tutoring Position, May 24, 2021
Thanks for viewing this job offer. It is a unique opportunity for anyone interested in the area of education. Since these jobs are provided by the government’s Canada Summer Jobs program, all employees must be between 15 and 30 years old.
If you peruse this website, you will see that Juku has been around for over 20 years providing educational experiences through, Tutoring and Summer Camps.
Since the pandemic, our normal modes of operation have been affected drastically. All classes are through Zoom and Google Classroom. We have developed most of the standard curriculum for Math and English since the summer of 2020. We are now interested in some of the lesser developed curriculum, Science, Arts, History, Public Speaking, French, Debating…
If you think you can teach classes and develop a curriculum, then this can be a rewarding position. Since the work is mainly done remotely, it is hard to place a dollar per hour. We base the payment on $20 per hour for teaching during the summer and $25 per hour for during the Fall and Spring. The rest of the salary will be based on how fast one is at developing curriculum. An experienced person with solid computer skills can prepare a lesson in 3-5 hours, while less experienced will take 6-10 hours.
Teaching involves making the classes fun and engaging. The vehicle for teaching is Zoom and Powerpoint or Google Slides. Each class is 1.5 hours and some time should be spent reviewing homework. The homework should be marked on a “completed basis”. Main grades are 1-8.
The curriculum involves creating slides for the classes (students will not get a copy of the slides), homework/notes (3-5 pages), and a copy of the homework with answers (posted each week on Google Classroom). This part always takes longer than you think it will take, but you will become more efficient.
For most of the participants, the salary will be based on full-time employment for 6-9 weeks during the summer. For others, it may be part-time 12-15 hours per week for 20 weeks or more. Some current students may do a combination of 15-20 hours per week in the summer and 2-5 hours during school time. We are quite flexible in terms of work times and the completion of lesson plans. After the Canada Summer Jobs program is completed, some employees will have the opportunity to continue to teach part-time for $25 per hour.
If this position interests you, please submit a resume and cover letter stating what is your ideal working hours; what courses and grades you are interested in; and your previous experience with teaching or curriculum development.
Courses of interest can be Ontario school curriculum or courses which are possibly sellable to parents, such as vocabulary, Olympiad math, business, French, art, Spanish, mandarin, geography, science, communication, mental math, Shakespeare, debating…basically anything.

Updated: June 26, 2019
Note: Urgent: We currently have six openings. 1) two general teachers (am-math/english, pm-activities) 2) one sports/fitness teacher for the gym. Must be over 18 and have either great experience or great activities.

Camp Juku Summer Academic and Activities Camp requires several Camp Leaders. Must be at least 18 years old and currently in high school or university. This is a great way to spend your summer in a fun atmosphere. You will be “Master” of your own class (with some assistance from high school volunteers). It is your goal to make it an enjoyable and educational experience.
This position is ideal for those who are currently in education or are considering a teaching career as “plan B”. A summer with Juku will give you a good feel as to what teaching entails. However, you do not have to aspire to be a teacher. We have had great success with students with other objectives.
Ideal candidates: are comfortable with Math and English up to the grade 8 level; are very dynamic with plenty of energy; can make children laugh and have a good time; and have some special “teachable skills”. It’s Math and English in the morning, but almost anything goes in the afternoon (Mon, Tue, Thurs): art, drama, dance, sports, tai chi, magic, lego, science, history, karaoke, law, puzzles, origami, Spanish, astronomy…whatever the teachers can teach. You don’t have to be a master of the topic, just know more than the students and be someone who can make it an enjoyable experience. Wednesday and Friday afternoons are for team contests and movies. The days will fly by.
The morning teaching does not require a lesson plan. We have all the work to be handed out.
Fees for first time Teachers: $16-$18/hr. 30 hour weeks. Lunch is provided. Orientation meeting in June.
If you are interested, please send a resume and cover letter stating your experience, education, and any possible teachable activities. teach@juku.ca
Only those being considered will be contacted before June 1.
