New:   Summer Camp Teaching Positions

Dates:   July 8th to August 16, 2024

* Note: we currently have an urgent need for a teacher for our youngest students at Mount Joy PS  (JK/SK or 1/2).  Some experience would be useful, but if you feel comfortable and confident with teaching young students please apply.  You should be resourceful, energetic, and a very patient and friendly person.  Recent high school grads can apply.

Camp Juku Summer Academic and Activities Camp requires several Camp Leaders. Must be at least 18 years old and currently in high school or university.  This is a great way to spend your summer in a fun atmosphere.  You will be assigned a class with some assistance from high school volunteers.  It is your goal to make it an enjoyable and educational experience.  You will be working with a team of leaders to help monitor breaks, supervising movie and game time, and making the summer experience enjoyable for all.

This position is ideal for those who are currently in education or are considering a teaching career as “plan B”.  A summer with Juku will give you a good feel as to what teaching entails.   However, you do not have to aspire to be a teacher.  We have had great success with students with other objectives.

Ideal candidates: are comfortable with Math and English up to the grade 8 level; are very dynamic with plenty of energy; can make children laugh and have a good time; and have some special “teachable skills”.   It’s Math and English in the morning, but almost anything goes in the afternoon (Mon, Tue, Thurs): art, drama, dance, sports, tai chi, magic, lego, science, history, karaoke, law, puzzles, origami, Spanish, astronomy…whatever the teachers can teach for around 7 hours over three days.  You don’t have to be a master of the topic, just know more than the students and be someone who can make it an enjoyable experience.  Wednesday and Friday afternoons are for team contests and movies.  The days will fly by.

The morning teaching does not require a lesson plan, all the Math and English curriculum is provided.

Rate for new Teachers varies by experience and activities: $18-$25/hr.   30 hour weeks. Lunch is provided.  Orientation meeting in June.

If you are interested, please send a resume and cover letter stating your experience, education, and any possible teachable activities.   teach@juku.ca

First time teachers with some special “activity skills” are welcome to apply.
